Wherever possible, Dr. Matarasso performs a special technique for eyelid surgery called transconjunctival blepharoplasty, or TCB. With TCB, surgical incisions are made inside the lower eyelids, so patients do not have visible scars and do not need any stitches. A laser tightens the lower lids. Unlike traditional blepharoplasty methods, TCB does not injure the muscles under the eyelids.

Dr. Matarasso’s many areas of expertise in blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and upper facial rejuvenation include both upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty, ptosis repair, transcutaneous approaches, open and endoscopic reduction of glabellar lines between the eyebrows, and managing a complication known as oculocardiac reflex.

One of the ways he has gained such extensive knowledge and honed his skills in blepharoplasty is that he analyzed the indications and treatment of 100 lower eyelid blepharoplasty patients earlier in his career. The results of that study were published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, cited in the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery yearbook, and selected as a media release by the ASPS.

Dr. Matarasso has also given numerous lectures on current techniques in aesthetic blepharoplasty and led teaching courses on upper facial rejuvenation and eyelidplasty for the ASPRS.
