Alan Matarasso is a magna cum laude graduate of Boston University and graduate of the University of Miami- Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Matarasso trained in general surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine-Montefiore Hospital where he continued as a resident and then chief resident in plastic surgery. He completed a fellowship in cosmetic surgery under the direction of Dr. Thomas D. Rees at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital/Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery-New York University Medical Center. Dr. Matarasso is or has been a professor at two medical schools. He achieved the rank of Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and is currently a Clinical Professor of Surgery at Northwell Health System/Hofstra University, Zucker School of Medicine and Systems Chief of Cosmetic Surgery
Dr. Matarasso has over 1000 publications, having authored over 357 articles and 86 book chapters and monographs, including 7 Clinics in Plastic Surgery. He is the co-editor of Neligan’s 5th Edition Plastic Surgery, Volume 2-Aesthetic Surgery. He has presented 830 papers, posters, and lectures nationally and internationally. Dr. Matarasso has served as the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) visiting professor from 1999 to 2001, the 2017 Rhinoplasty Society Traveling Professor, the 2022- 2023 ASPS/PSF Traveling professor, and ICOPLAST Traveling Professor 2026. He has been or is on the editorial board of PRS, PRS-GO, ASJ, APS, and Clinics in Plastic Surgery. He is a manuscript reviewer for medical journals including, JAMA. He has been named New York Magazine’s “Best Doctors” and in Castle-Connolly’s “Guide to Best Doctors in New York” every year since 1996. In Newsweek Magazine he was one of two doctors to be named in the top 10 of all categories (rhinoplasty, facelift, liposuction, breast augmentation, blepharoplasty, abdominoplasty), since it’s inception.
Dr. Matarasso has also been recognized by Woodward & White’s “Best Doctors in America” annually since 1997. He is a recognized member of “Who's Who in the World, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the East, Men of Achievement, and Oxford's Who's Who.” Magazines such as W, Vogue (US, Russia, UK), Harper’s Bazaar (2014), Elle, Town & Country, Great Britain’s Tatler, American Health and Departures (2015) have also selected him in their “Best Doctors” lists. Alan Matarasso is the current president of The Plastic Surgery Foundation (2025 – ASPS/PSF). He is the past President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS-2019) and has served on the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors. He was President of The Rhinoplasty Society (2009-2010) and the New York Regional Society of Plastic Surgeons (2006- 2007). He is currently the assistant national secretary (USA) to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He is the US delegate to ICOPLAST (International Confederation of Plastic Surgery Societies). He also serves on the board of directors of four non-profit, non-medical organizations. He has sponsored summer internships for college students from the University of Pennsylvania and Brown University.
